This guide is phenominal! The cross-platfrom approach with CMake and SDL is exactly what the indie scene needs right now. Most Unity devs dunno what they're missing by not learning the fundamentals. Your breakdown of the build pipeline realy demystifies the whole process

Thank you for the kind words Neural Foundry!

Yes, why waste thousands of hours learning a commercial engine when you can have an incredibly fast game dev environment that pushes you to learn, and eventually master, game dev fundamentals?

I don't mind engines as a tool, since I'm currently learning Unity to get started with. However to your point on optimizations, yeah it is a problem. There are so many bad tutorials using outdated methods. It's no wonder so many Unity devs are bad considering the poor teaching resources out there.

That's exactly what I want to change with these guides I'll be posting here on Substack, and my course on C++/SDL development.

A focus on quality, optimization and updated methods is essential to save gaming.

Once I finish my current tutorial, I am going to jump over and try this out.

Thanks a million for posting this.

I should have this platformer tutorial done by this weekend, after that I will give this a shot (luckily I already have been using VSCode so I know my way around it). I am sure many questions will follow. :D
